Dr. Nabin Raj Joshi is a passionate and resourceful environmental conservationist from Nepal, committed to participatory approaches in climate change adaptation, mitigation, and resilience. With a deep understanding of economic theory and natural resources, he has successfully applied his expertise to community development projects. Dr. Joshi has nearly a decade of experience in planning, implementing, monitoring, and supervising projects related to climate change, food security, and natural resource management. His work spans multiple countries, including Nepal, India, Bhutan, and the Philippines, where he has contributed to significant initiatives such as the Forest Reference Emission Level (FREL) of Nepal. He possesses strong science communication skills, making complex ecological and economic data accessible to the general public.

Dr. Joshi earned his Ph.D. in Forestry, focusing on carbon sequestration by mixed plantations in the Terai region as a strategy to mitigate climate change. This degree was conferred by Kumaun University, India, in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS) and the University of Tuscia, Italy, in 2014. He also holds a Master of Science in Forestry from Kumaun University, India, obtained in 2008, and a Bachelor’s degree in Forestry from the same university in 2006. Dr. Joshi completed his Proficiency Certificate Level (PCL) in Science at Tribhuwan University, Nepal, in 2002.

Dr. Joshi has held various significant positions throughout his career. He is currently serving as a Programs Advisor for the Institute of Himalayan Risk Reduction (IHRR), where he designs and implements research and development projects related to climate change adaptation and mitigation. He has also worked as a Team Leader for the World Bank-funded project under the Ministry of Forests and Environment, Government of Nepal, where he developed and revised Nepal’s Forest Reference Emission Level (FREL) for REDD+ implementation. Dr. Joshi has extensive experience working with the Asia Network for Sustainable Agriculture and Bio-resources (ANSAB), where he has been involved in designing and implementing climate change and natural resource management projects at the landscape and watershed levels.
